One of These Unique Bars in Toronto Fits the Vibe of Tonight Drinks

The Shameful Tiki Room Toronto

Whether high-end or casual, minimalist or quirky, Toronto has a bar that fits the bill. Here are five great examples that run the gamut of what the city has to offer.

1. The Shameful Tiki Room

A classic Tiki Bar on Queen Street, The Shameful Tiki Room features a menu abundant in rum-based cocktails and tropical flavours. The drinks are beautifully presented, with a punch of both sweetness and booze. Particularly eye-catching are the Painkiller, which comes in a coconut cream can, and the Voodoo Bowl which is set aflame against the low lit atmosphere. A sit-down place, The Shameful Tiki Room also serves Polynesian-inspired food. Most important to the vibes here is decor– think palm fronds, house plants, netted lanterns, and glowing bungalows.

After Seven

2. After Seven

An intimate speakeasy experience, you must enter through Kome Yogurt on Stephanie St. and order #8 from the menu to be let inside. This spot offers Japanese-inspired cocktails in addition to whiskey and snack flights, and a few modern classics. Here you’ll experience flavours you’ve probably never tried in an alcoholic beverage before, such as matcha, pandan, sesame and jasmine tea. The atmosphere is intimate; just a bright teal bar with golden art-deco style stools and large collection of bottles.

Libertine

3. The Libertine

Picture this: large leather booths, neon signs, DJs, dancing and a young crowd. That’s the deal at The Libertine every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This spot on Dundas Street is sure to keep you moving to hip-hop and R&B classics under their signature red lighting.

4. Grey Tiger

An indoor-outdoor bar, cocktail school and bottle-shop located in Bloordale Village, Grey Tiger is great for those who like drinking in a casual environment. Of course, they’re also know for a little vintage witchy flair. The elegantly designed drinks menu includes sliding scales next to each house cocktail, indicating where the drink lies on a range from refreshing to spirituous, and approachable to adventurous. For a festive atmosphere and pretty drinks called things like “Hare of God” and “Cloud Dragon”, head over to this spot on Bloor St. West.

Monarch Tavern

5. Monarch Tavern

This two-level historic building in Toronto’s Little Italy has games, live music and pub food like fish and chips. Described as a true watering hole, this is a space for birthdays, local bands and meeting new people. Come in for the craft beer and stay for the pool table and Thursday night karaoke.
